An as many of our dedicated shoppers are aware, half of our inventory is comprised of her romantic sundresses, sumptuous sweaters and delicately woven knits. So when we heard she was opening a specialty boutique on the west coast, obviously we got a little jealous.


Hollywood looked a little better yesterday when Dita Von Teese and other A-list fashionistas came out to support the Catherine Malandrino Maison Grand Opening and 10 Year Anniversary. Fashion scoopers may remeber Malandrino making a cameo last year on Project Runway as a guest judge. No judging was needed yesterday because guests like Rosario Dawson, Maria Menounos, and Mary J Blige looked amazing in the designers elegant creations.


The party was hosted by Mary J. and Catherine Malandrino. Malandrino has been infusing many red carpet events with her jaw dropping french fashion for over ten years now...so a Hollywood boutique was just a matter of time.


The French Fashionista's new concept boutique on Melrose Place will house a café, library, and Malandrino’s two lines, as well as her recently launched jewelry collection, sunglasses and books. Merchandise includes tops from the contemporary line ranging from $395 to $595, Malandrino designer dresses from $1,600 to $2,450, shoes starting at $600, handbags between $900 and $1,600 and jewelry pieces from $400 to $2,000. Despite the bleak economic climate, Malandrino said she thinks her market niche is somewhat shielded.


“What I’m proposing to my customers is not a commodity,” she said. “It’s not about things you need, it’s about things you want, about beauty and giving yourself a moment of pleasure despite what’s going on.”

And for those less inclined to spend a bundle at the boutique, DesignerLaundry will continue to carry those lovely little Malandrino samples for a fraction of the retail price--Mais Oui.
